History

The school was established in 1980. The school formed part of the newly constructed Township in Newlands East, on the outskirts of KwaMashu. In 1980 the school catered for grades five to nine (standard three to standard seven). In every successive year a new grade was added on. In time the lower grades were transferred to Roseland Primary.
In 1983 the school had its first matric class. The school now caters for Grades 8 to 12. The school has always admitted all learners regardless of race, colour or creed.

COURTEOUS BOYS CLUB

Picture

Sponsored by Marsh, the Courteous Boys Club aims at learners are not necessarily academically inclined and performing well, but allows the school to create a platform for boys that have challenges and under perform. This group gives them a sense of purpose as they are able to make a difference in their environment at school and have a positive change in their attitude and behaviour.

The programme positively reinforces correct attitudes, responsibilities, values and a sense of belonging. The programme has been seen to make a positive change in many of the participating boys, in the way they conduct themselves, the way they present themselves, (with regards to uniform), and an overall improvement with regard to respect shown to educators and their peers.

The 2021 Grade 11 Courteous Boys have embarked on a cleaning program in respect of the classrooms. They started with the cleaning of chairs for learners and the windows of the building.

It must be noted that the pupils concerned worked extremely efficiently with barely any supervision. Boys gave willingly of their own time and worked out a schedule to ensure that the cleaning did not interfere with those boys that still needed to attend extra lessons.

From the second term, the boys will be invited to form study groups, to assist each other with regard to academic work. Dedicated teacher, Mrs Leone Jafta, will assist and guide the boys with research in preparation for projects and assignments, and in that way encourage them to take a more active role in their learning.

During the second term, we will be inviting former learners at the school who are now part of the police force, will address the club on bullying and/or substance abuse.
